I know that eventually there will be a call for blogs that use psych theory to understand what has been happening to us. This will not be one of them.
My business has dived off the cliff. By June I will have lost all income. I will not have health insurance, nor be able to afford even the flimsiest policy. My business is gone. All these years I worked 18 hours a day, six to seven days a week in order to make a nice living. Within the space of a day, gone.
And apply any theory you want--but I worry that I will run out of cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc and not be able to afford the exorbitant mark-ups. In NYC, you cannot get Lysol, Handi-Wipes, toilet paper, alcohol, H202. Frozen foods are scarce. Cleansers that used to be sold as a gallon are now sold as 52 oz--and cost more.
There is no theory that applies to reality. I'm sure that when the anti-Semitic fascists were rampaging throughout Hungary, Ferenczi was not thinking about the death instinct in Horthy's government. Freud may have been doing so, but that only because his followers were collecting money and food for his family. Freud was free to be Freud, because everyone else dealt with reality.
Last week an opthmologist whom I was supposed to consult with on 3/16 (cancelled-guess why) wanted to have a teleconference call with me to check up and whatever--bill, I suppose, because probably they wanted to start getting some income into the practice. I don't do teleconferencing--I take my confidentiality seriously. Beside, they don't talk to me unless they dilate, MRI, CAT, etc my eyes. C'mon--what can they do just by looking at my face. Anyway, I don't have the equipment on my computers, nor do I want to risk my confidentiality. The secretary kept calling--finally, she said Dr. W was willing to do a telephone call. I accepted, but told her most eye doctors are very visual people and it was unclear to me what he would be able to gleam from a phone call. Nor was it clear to me how this would be paid for--with teleconferencing, I know you can just type in your credit card. Hahahahah. More information to be compromised.
NOBODY CALLED ME TODAY from that office, even to cancel.
I have no intention of going back there, even if the fact that I won't have insurance wasn't a factor.
And yes, I have had many a phone call with clinic patients and I couldn't charge for it. It was the HUMAN thing to do. In fact, many of the things I did for patients during my time as a clnician were not reimbursed--phone calls, referrals, paperwork, Social Security forms, additional services, conferencing with teachers, etc. Psychiatrists rarely did so and physicians never. They don't even call patients back when patients had questions about meds--no money, no time.
!8,000,000 souls lost their jobs in the last month. By June, that means 18 million souls more won't have insurance. And forget the ACA---since 2018, it is not affordable. It is not caring. The average individual will spend $800 for a policy that has a deductible of approximately $3000. Who can afford that? People will just get sicker and sicker and deader than doornails, with desultary dispatch.
And still no one talks about this. Heaven forfend--communism. (See the last post on retirees for Trump)
