It is more stressful teaching on-line than teaching remotely. Especially when administration decides their way of "supporting us" is to send out nasty grams berating us. The world has gone crazy. Chances are, you have enough toilet paper to last a week, if not a month. Chances are, you have enough soap and water to last a month. There is no need to buy enough toilet paper to supply an army for a year. I sincerely hope these people are not trying to make a profit by selling for a humongous profit. Be a mensch.
I understand--toilet paper relates to a regression back to the anal stage. We are afraid of being shunned for making a mess, for not being clean enough. But toilet paper itself is a rather inefficient way of being clean. It amazes me that we have not come up with better ways to clean ourselves after urination or defecation. In Asia, they prefer bidets, which are more efficient.
It is also time to evaluate how are medical personnel dress. For over two decades, medical personal in the United Kingdom wear short sleeves. No neckties. A necktie is just a convenient vehicle for transporting germs from one person to the next, and home again. Neckties are rarely washed or even cleaned. Long-sleeves also drag the germs along, just as well. Wearing jewelry prevents the areas being covered from a thorough wash and dry. Long hair that is not severely bound up is also a great transportation mechanism.
I am bored and I am fearful. The schools are closed. Where will the children go and who will supervise them? Will crime rates increase? Will vandalism increase? Will the malls have to close, due to shopkeeper panic of adolescents with more impulses than sense?
What about our prisons? They are filled with individuals who are mostly in very bad health, and, who have committed crimes. All the prisons are overcrowded and underfunded. Will Riker's Island become Death Row, by default? Or will the inmates be released, on compassionate grounds, and return to Manhattan Island?
What about our homeless children? 10%of our NYC schoolchildren are homeless. Who will supervise them?
In September, will we see an increase in homelessness?
And will I be around to know it?
